So I was working on a really healthy veggie soup post and I just kept thinking about these cookies. I made them over a month ago and I have been dying to share them with you. I wanted to wait until July though, because it is National Ice Cream month!!! Here is what good old Wikipedia says on the subject:
National Ice Cream Month is held in each year in July in the United States. Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month in 1984. He also named the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day. Reagan recognized the popularity of ice cream in the United States (90% of the nation’s population consumes ice cream) and stated that these two events should be observed with “appropriate ceremonies and activities”.
I love ice cream and I love making ice cream. My favorite flavors of homemade ice cream are grapefruit, chocolate brownie, concord grape, pumpkin dump cake, blueberry cheesecake, malted milk, and so many more! Todays post is about cookies and ice cream. Two great things!
I made these cookies for an ice cream/sweet shop themed birthday party. A friend of mine’s daughter turned one. Let me share some party pics with you. It was such a cute party!

I’m not going to go into too much detail about how I made the cookies, but feel free to visit my royal icing sugar cookie tutorial to learn how to make cookies like these. I added a few drops of raspberry LorAnn’s flavoring oil (click here to see these oils)to the my normal cookie dough recipe. I love these little oils. They have such good flavor and the flavor is highly concentrated, so it only takes a few small drops. I recommend using a little dropper so you don’t get too much flavoring in the cookies.
To make the soft serve cones, I outlined and flooded the white and yellow portions. Once they were dry, I added detailing to the cone with piping consistency icing. Then I used a twenty second royal icing (to learn how to do a 20 second icing, visit THIS tutorial) for the chocolate fudge so that it would look more puffy and wet. I actually added cocoa powder to help make the color a deep chocolate brown.

I made the sugar cone by outlining and flooding everything and adding the stripes to the cone. Once it was all dry, I put a swirl of pink frosting that the edge of the ice cream and the cone, and dipped it in pink sanding sugar.

I made the sundaes by doing the usual outlining and flooding and detailing. To make the whipped cream, I used piping ice cream with a big, jagged tip. The made the cherries out of cookie dough and baked them right alongside the cookies. Then I dipped them in red flooding icing.

I have a few more ice cream recipes for you this month, so make sure you check back. I hope you all eat lots and lots of ice cream this month!
